22 for 22

My 'buggy' is 22-months-old today.  And I just can't believe it?!  (You told me it would go quick.  I was skeptical though.)

Anyhow, take a look at how my boy's changed.  Here's 22 for 22:

I think it's safe to say Aksel's mastered his 'blue steel' pose.

No matter, he'll always be my baby!  Happy 22 months!

    Wordless Wednesday. v10

My baby little boy will be 19-months-old tomorrow.  Pinch me...

A year and a some goes by way too quick!  I think I'm gonna give my baby little boy a kiss now.  But let's look back once more...

Have a wonderful Wednesday, and kiss your babies... toddlers... youngins... they're growing fast!

    Bumps, Bangs, and Bruises...

The beauty of this thing called parenthood, becomes more clear each day.  At nearly 16 months, my little one sure keeps me laughing.

But, it's not just the good kind.  Mischievous to say the least, Aksel has me chuckling in fear.

For instance, I've recently observed this new "look" on Aksel's face, and I shutter to think of what's in store?  Don't get me wrong, it's darling... the look.  It's just daring, brazen, and curious, too.

It's like I tucked my BABY in one night (last week), and he awoke a BOY the next day.  And, it's been bumps, bangs, and bruises since...

As a side note, I'm thinking Aksel might take after his flying-squirrel-for-an-aunt, Bridgette, who carefully scaled and then jumped dangerously off each furniture item in my childhood home.  Oh boy!

Nonetheless, there's a great place in this world for carefree spirits. Undaunted ones, too.  I just hope this TYPE A momma can cope...

I'll keep you posted though. In the meantime, have a great weekend!

    O'er the Table.

After a week-long spell of rain (and much cooler temperatures), I'm finally takin' my lil' bug outside to play!  Yippee!

But it should, in fact, turn out to be a whole weekend of good-time fun and laughter.  Card playing, too.

I fail to mention, Grammy and Pop Pop (my in-laws) are on their way down, and boy do they play a mean game of Minnesota Pitch.

Thankfully, I'm something of a natural at the table.  The card table, that is.  I mean, ya don't go and get married by Elvis if ya stink at blackjack.  No really, I can barely play slapjack.  It just so happens, I run with it.  Meaning, I'm not afraid to take risks, or trash-talk.

In all seriousness though, I've been constantly reminded, over the course of these past days, how important it is to spend quality time with those you love.  And, we (the Kohns) connect best o'er the table, a bottle of wine, and a tricky hand of cards.

This (card playing) is a tradition I intend to carry on...

    Momma's Hand.

Really, what can I say?  Being needed is bliss!

    Holding on to momma's hand.

Here it is though...TIME goes quick!

So, enjoy each stage (no matter how tiresome or monotonous), because my boy now needs momma's hand to walk.

    Can you hear my tears?

PS - Walking photos to follow soon!

    I Marvel at the Marble.

I marvel at the marble, and wonder where o' where you've gone?

Is it just me, or were they everywhere at one time?  Marbles.  On the street?  In the dirt?  Under a tree?  It seems to me I spent a good long portion of my youth finding them in the most random of places.

Now, nothing.  Nowhere.  Not a sight.

This glass goldfish is not a marble in the good ol' sense, but it so happens to be the greatest token of our love.  (Mark's and mine.)

Aside from our child, that is!

As a side note, you may have noticed recently my sentimental posts showcasing simple (perhaps even odd) things like seal-hair dolls and census papers.  You may wonder why I'm adament in sharing them?

    Really, what's the big deal?

Well, let me try to explain...

I know it's silly, but we're not guaranteed anything in this life.  I mean, I really hope I live to be old, old, old.  And I hope just as much that those I love and care for grow to be old, old, old with me, but I just can't say for sure?  So, I feel it necessary to write what I value.

And I'm learning (with age), that those things don't cost lots of money.  In fact, they're neither bought nor sold for much of anything.  They just have heart.  They tell a story.

And folks, a STORY is gold in my mind.

So, I marvel at the Murano marble.  Our lil' glass ball that we bought together on a rainy September day, on a crooked side street in Venice, when our love was just new and our pockets empty.

It means as much to me as my $16 DICE wedding ring!

    You + Me = Forever

Without being a total SAP (ha ha), I should say:

My love is like an OAK.  Strong and patient.  Bending, too.

So, this embroidered gift by cozyblue was the perfect expression of my long-standing, deep-rooted, tree-like LOVE for my mate, Mark.

    Growing, Growing, Grown...

I've said it a million times, but I can't believe how quickly it's going!  How fast my child's growing!  It's zipping by...

    Growing, growing, grown!

Yesterday, we journeyed to the pediatrician's office for an update.  Immunizations, too.  Whoa!  Might I add, It's getting more difficult to both maneuver and occupy my youngin' on said appointments.

Most important though, my BIG boy is developing normally and growing just fine.  Here are Aksel's current wellness stats:

    Momma loves her big boy!

    Age:  13 months

    Weight:  25.12 pounds

    Height:  32.5 inches

See for yourself how my boy's changing.  Check out past updates here and here and here.  Also, see how Aksel likes to read (below).  He's my darling lil' bookworm.

    A Jar Called BLOG.

I don't know about you, but I'm nostalgic.  And it seems I'm increasingly more so as the days pass.

Especially now, since I'm MOTHER to a curious boy.

In all seriousness, memories from my childhood come flooding back most everyday, and they're random.  For instance, I'm itching to write about blueberries and goldfish?!

    Together.

A memory about blueberries and goldfish.

(Not the cracker kind, mind you.)

Speaking straight, my DRAFTS are piled high, and at this rate, I'll never stop writing.  So, thanks for reading my randomness.  This blog has been, for me, a place of sweet preservation.

It's kinda like I'm pickling vegetables, but they're memories.  Stories in a jar.  A jar called BLOG.  They're certainly not for everyone, but for those who like okra or blueberries or goldfish, they're great!

    Randomness, case in point.

And I'll Crawl If I Want To...

My lil' man is a baby no more.  He's a toddler, and it pains me to admit this.  Who'da thunk I'd be so sentimental, so destroyed to accept change?  Nonetheless, life goes marching merrily on...

With this all being said, we recently celebrated Aksel's "1st" birthday, and it was a Yo Gabba Gabba great time!

"It's my party, and I'll crawl if I want to!" -- Aksel

    Games and Gabba fun...

    Party hats in theme...

Cosmic hot dogs, root beer on draft, and MoonPies at Jack's...

    Friends of all ages, and...

    Family... family... family!

That's all, folks!  I'm ONE now...
