The Pedestrian and Phrases.

As the saying goes, spring has sprung, and I couldn't be happier, really!  The trepidation I felt only days ago, to fully clothe, cover, and shield my child from winter's cold, has dissipated finally.  And I could burst into song just now, Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah, Zip-A-Dee-Ay...

FYI -- When I mention, or proclaim for that matter, any one of the next following phrases, take heed, because I intend to follow through:  (I'll also include the literal consequence of such phrases.)

  • Disney's The Little Mermaid (2008 Original Broadway Cast) I could sing a song. =   I'm going to sing a song right now.  It'll probably be a Disney selection, or even better, a Broadway hit like Disney's The Little Mermaid (2008 Original Broadway Cast). (It's a dream of mine to someday record a collection of children's songs.  I love music, and I think it's so important for kids to hear music from an early age.  A current, but not contemporary play in the Mulligan-Kohn household is Young Chet by Chet Baker.  I'm teaching Aksel to appreciate jazz.  It's monotonic magic!)

  • I could do a dance right here. = I'm going to stop immediately, drop all belongings, fist pump, and fast-walk in place.  I call it the Pedestrian. (I have countless photos mid-dance.  In my mind, it's similar to the infant Moro reflex described on page 104, in What to Expect the First Year (What to Expect (Workman Publishing)).)

  • On Becoming Baby Wise: Giving Your Infant the Gift of Nighttime Sleep (On Becoming. . .)Do I need to say something? (thought or spoken) = I'm going to stop immediately, probably spout-off at the mouth, and then regret, wholeheartedly, everything I said.  (I apologize if anyone has ever felt the wrath of my hotheadedness!   My inspiration to ultimately assess & address my communication situation, mentioned in previous posts, came within two minutes of reading On Becoming Baby Wise: Giving Your Infant the Gift of Nighttime Sleep (On Becoming. . .))
I'll talk about the phrases I soon hope my child knows I intend to take seriously, and from where such phrases came!  I'm sure I'll have them, right?  I am only three months in though, and I'm not looking to rush anything.

For the time being however, the following will do:

I'm not saying this for my health.
-- Grandpa

Consistency from the start.
-- Pop Pop

Children need your time.
-- Grammy

Let's go for a wilderness walk.
-- Lulee

I suppose I'll get back to the singing now,  Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah, Zip-A-Dee-Ay Zip- A- Dee-Doo-Dah...

  1. I'm glad you didn't read Baby Wise. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization have each released statements against this book.
