The Grape Bandit!

I stole grapes from the IGA when I was four.  I filled my cheeks, and pockets too, with green, seedless grapes.  My mother scolded me for taking the fruit, and with good reason, marched me to the front of the store where I was forced to admit my actions to the attending manager.  Ashamed and embarrassed, I apologized to the gentleman for swiping handfuls of his produce.

(A HaGrapes!  This would explain my penchant for wine!)

I will have you know, I have never since stolen anything, but my love for fruits and vegetables grows steady still, stronger by the day.

A perfect song for the occasion!  The Book Report (From "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown")

Actually, I did some research of my own at http://www.ancestry.com/, and the results are back...

Ladies and gentlemen, it's official!  After connecting my leaves, I, Gillian Mulligan, am ¼ Rabbit, ¾ Potato.

I had a feeling... the number of carrots I consume in one sitting is ungodly!  What can I say?  Some people like chicken wings, I prefer carrots.

It all makes sense now!  My sister, Bridgette, must've known it all along!  She's been calling me the Queen of Rabbits since I was nine.

This pseudonym was given largely due to the size of my teeth.

PLEASE REFER TO EXHIBIT A.  CASE IN POINT.

I say all of this, because my little boy will be eating solids soon, and I'm preparing for his food embarkment.  In the meantime, I'm reminiscing over, and asking questions about, my lifelong relationship with food.

Over the course of the next few weeks, I plan on sharing a selection of my favorite food memories.  I also hope to create a reasonable Food Plan for Aksel.  It's my desire to give him the tools to establish healthy eating habits from the start.

I want him to observe the textures and natural flavors of good ol' from-the-garden, F & V Delicious.  (That's code for fruits & vegetables.)  I believe, as a child, my tastebuds were manipulated by sugar, preservatives, and cupcakes!

GoshThat looks good

Even now, some twenty years later, I can hardly resist the allure of a cupcake, but I do.

More to come on food...

  1. That is hilarious. I did the same with a pack of gum, and my mom reacted the same way resulting in me being so completely paranoid on the rare occasions something small has gotten left in the bottom of the cart that I go back in and pay for it. But as far as food...I fed my kids everything I ate. F&V were their snacks instead of cookies or chips. To this day they prefer carrots and strawberries coupled with water, oj, or milk over cake, candy, or soda. My sons favorite food is brocoli!! Because I had them eating everything at an early age they will try everything at least once. Feed him things that you don't like too. IE: I hate peas...my kids don't.

  2. Gillian, this is the funniest one to date. I feel special, having my name blasted over your blog! Sorry for the horrible nickname, but you must remember mine (one tooth walrus, eh?)
