The Reconciliation of a Recycling Slacker!

It's slowly dawning on me... I'm the parent now, and it's MY responsibility to teach little man about the world around him.  This afternoon, for instance, we laid on a blanket in the front yard, and I told Aksel about the sky.  I pointed out fast-moving clouds, a crescent moon ascending, and two birds flying high.  Of course, he listened!

A perfect SKY song:  Stephen Sondheim: I Remember

It excites me to think of all that we'll share, and as cliché as it sounds, my child inspires me to be a better person!

On the topic of our world however, and its blue sky...

                                         Happy Earth Day!

It's a personal goal to teach Aksel to respect the planet.  For the most part, Mark and I are conscientious of our carbon footprint.  We care about the environment!  We live in an EarthCraft house.  We recycle.  I try to conserve electricity, and for the most part, we drive only one car.

I could be better though... it's time now to reconcile my lazy lady ways!

Recently, I've been letting it slide a little, and I feel guilty!  With a child, it's sometimes easier to throw the recyclables in with all the other garbage, and more often than not, I forget to turn lights off!  Not to mention, my grocery store behavior!  What about the plastic bags I opt to use en lieu of my chic market tote, or the countless 99¢ reusable bags I've purchased at the checkout so many times?!  Where are they, and why don't I use them?

Collapsible Basket, Folding Shopping Bag,

Today, I'm making a mommy promise to myself to lead by example, to stop making excuses for my bad Earth habits, and to embrace the GREEN around me.  I can do it, and so can you!

To commemorate Aksel's first Earth Day, we are planting a tree together!  What will you do today to celebrate our planet, and the abundance it provides?
REUSE.  REDUCE.  RECYCLE.
